Music

At Robert Piggott Schools we aim to inspire our children to have a love of music and a desire to learn how to become musicians. Is it our intention to help children feel that they are musical, and to develop a life-long love of music. We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that children need in order to become confident performers, composers and listeners. We introduce children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities.

Core areas of study include singing, listening and appraising, composing and improvising, and instrumental performance, all of which are cumulatively built throughout the curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on the musical language that pupils need to explore their own musicality, revisited and embedded over time to develop confident, inspired musicians. Musical lessons are creative, exploratory and practical allowing children of all backgrounds to develop a love of music along with the knowledge and skills which give them a broad understanding of this artistic area.

Overall, our music curriculum intends to engage and inspire all our children in order to increase self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
